ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The William Jessup men's golf team teed off the season at the Sonoma State Men's Invite hosted at the Foxtail Golf Club, where the Warriors were able to get back in the groove of play after the summer off finishing in the eighth spot.
In his first season at the helm but familiar with the program, alum
Matthew Robinson commented, "It was a tough first outing and we didn't play up to our potential, but we are a young team and these growing pains are to be expected. Oliver and Hunter our veterans led the team and set an example for the other guys."Â
Veterans
Oliver Csanyi and
Hunter Newlin led the Warriors throughout and through the first round on Monday, Csanyi was tied for 11th overall with a score of 73, Newlin also joined the pack at one over par (73). The Warriors would continue on Monday with their second round of play, as
Jacob Custodio had a low round for the Warriors at 73 and the Warriors shaved three strokes off their first-round score.
Headed into day two and the final round, Jessup was in seventh place with a score of 609 after the first two rounds. Unable to gain traction in the final 18 holes of the Invite, the Warriors finished 8th overall out of 8 with a final round score of 323. Csanyi would again shoot the best round with 78, finishing tied for 28th overall.Â
Coach Robinson concluded, "This tournament gave us a good baseline on where we need to improve and where we excelled. But I am confident in this young team and the future looks bright."
