Softball adds 11 to 2020 squad

First-year coach Brie Campbell is excited about what her first recruiting class will bring.

ROCKLIN, Calif. - After making it to the GSAC Softball Tournament each of the last four seasons, the Warriors will welcome a new coaching staff in 2020 with first-year head coach Brie Campbell and first-year assistant Brittany LaMar-George. The duo will be looking to make an impact and take the next step forward in conference title contention.

The 2020 team lost six players from last year and welcome 11 new recruits who will  play a key role in the team's success this season. "This season we have a strong presence in our recruiting class with dynamite transfers and freshmen alike. With double the amount of newcomers as returners, the combination of both classes is what will get us to the next level of competition this season."

Katie Blankenheim | Pine Grove, Calif. | Freshman | 5-6 | Pitcher

Blankenhiem joins the Warriors as a three-year varsity letterman at Amador HS where she was a First-Team All-Mother Lode League selection. She also helped the Buffaloes reach the playoffs each of her final two seasons.

Blankenhiem said she came to Jessup, "Because of the Liberal Studies program and how close it is to home so I can visit my family."

Gabby Olivas | Stockton, Calif. | Junior | 5-2 | Third Base

Olivas comes to Jessup after a two-year stint at Delta College where she amassed a .262 batting average while scoring 13 runs with nine RBIs and two stolen bases. During her two seasons at Delta, she helped the Mustangs finish 7th in the state of her freshman year and fourth as a sophomore. Her team also won the Big 8 Conference title last season.

Olivas said she came to Jessup because, "I wanted to become closer to God, and I really like the people on campus."

Kayla Altheide | Stockton, Calif. | Junior | 5-6 | Third/First Base

Altheide joins Jessup after a two-year stint at Delta College and a three-year varsity career at Bear Creek HS. During her time at Delta, the Mustangs won a conference title and finished top 10 in the state both years. During her time at BCHS, she was a second-team all-league selection and helped her team earn back-to-back undefeated league titles in 2015 and 2016.

Altheide said the reason she signed with the Warriors was because of divine intervention. "I came to Jessup because God continued to lead my heart towards this school. I fell in love with the campus and knew that I could thrive athletically, spiritually, and academically."

Shay Trent | Oakdale, Calif. | Junior | 5-4 | Infield/Outfield

Trent joins the Warriors on the back of a two-year career at Delta College where she became an All NorCal selection as well as a first-team selection as an outfielder. She was also a part of the Mustang team's that finished in the top 10 of the CCCAA and won a conference title last spring.

Trent said the biggest reason she came to Jessup was that the school supported all her dreams in athletics, academics, and faith.

Hailey Hiett | Santa Clara, Calif. | Junior | 5-3 | Shortstop/Second Base

Hiett joins the Warriors after stints at Montana State-Billings and College of San Mateo. Goetz comes to Jessup from Dana Hills HS where she was a three-year varsity letterman. During her time at DHHS, She became an All-League performer and was League MVP in 2018 while her team made it to the CIF semi-finals and won a league championship last spring.

Goetz said her main reason for coming to Jessup was to be a part of the great teaching program, as she plans to be a school teacher when she graduates.

Liana Castro | Fountain Valley, Calif. | Junior | 5-8 | Pitcher/First Base

Castro joins the Warriors after stints at both Santa Ana and Orange Coast colleges. Castro was also a three-year varsity letterman at Fountain Valley HS from 2014-2016.

Castro said the biggest reason she signed was that the opportunity would, "Allow me to continue my education in pursuit of my bachelor's degree while also continuing to play the sport I love. When I came to visit I immediately became a fan of the smaller campus which creates a tighter community."

Sierra Rodriguez | Rocklin, Calif. | Freshman | 5-9 | Infield/Outfield

Haley Chaboya | El Dorado Hills, Calif. | Sophomore | 5-6 | Infield

Chaboya joins the Warriors after playing last season at George Fox University. Prior to her time at GFU, Chaboya was a four-year varsity letterman at Calaveras HS. At CHS she was a three-time all-league selection. She also helped lead CHS to three-consecutive Mother Lode League Championships and two CIF section runner-up finishes as well.

Chaboya said she came to Jessup because of "the opportunity to play for a school closer to home while growing in my faith with God."

Campbell said her team will look to build on the foundation set by the teams that preceded them. "The previous coaching staff raised the bar for William Jessup and we are excited to execute the skills these women possess with a solid foundation in both the infield and outfield. We will look to the young and old to lead this team from every position with the athleticism they possess and the ability to play where the team needs them at any given time."
