Box Score 3 LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - It was the season-opener for Jessup softball with a triple-threat in front of them at the TCS SoCal Classic. The Warriors came out strong in game one against Carroll grabbing the 10-4 victory but dropped the final two contests of the day to start the season 1-2 with another matchup slated for tomorrow.
Game 1: Warriors 10, Carroll 4
The William Jessup Warriors fired up the offense in the second inning led by
Kaela Hangebrauck who drove in one when she singled. Each following inning the Warriors would drive in at least one run or more to take the game 104-4.
The offensive onslaught was a program record for most home runs in a single game with five. Hangebrauck went yard in the fifth inning. Basaldua went for the long ball in the sixth inning. Ruiz had a homer in the fifth and sixth innings.
Chelsie Kam-Aweau put one out in the fourth inning.
Katie Blankenheim pitched the Warriors to victory surrendering just three runs on eight hits over four and a third innings, striking out two and walking zero.
Taylor Swift threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Jessup scattered 12 hits in the game; Basaldua, Hangebrauck, Ruiz, and Haley Hiett all managed multiple hits for Jessup as Basaldua led going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Game 2: Northwest Christian 4, Jessup 3
It was another early start for the Warrior's offense in the first inning as Goetz reached on a Beacons' error and came in to score on a stolen base during
Natalie Basaldua's at-bat that followed up with a single.
But the Beacons would answer back in the following frame with a pair of runs as Jessup tied the game up at two in the bottom of the second inning after
Taylor Swift drew a walk, and a lead-off double by Hangebrauck scored making it 2-2.
The Northwest Christian Beacons pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning as the Warriors would put one more run-up in the bottom of the fourth with a double behind
Hailey Hiett to score Goetz, but it wouldn't be enough to seal the win in the following three innings.
Swift took the loss for Jessup as she surrendered four runs on six hits over three innings, striking out one and walking zero.
Hailey Hiett led offensively with three hits in four at-bats.
Game 3: Marymount 7, Jessup 0
It was a tough finish for the Warriors on Friday, who lost 7-0 to Marymount California University
A single by
Taya Ruiz in the second inning was a positive for William Jessup but a total of four-stranded runners throughout the game would not allow for the Warriors to hit the board. Ruiz, Hangebrauck, Basaldua, and Goetz all had one hit to lead William Jessup Warriors Varsity.
The difference would be a high seven errors by the Warriors as Marymount only grabbed two earned runs off freshman pitcher
Terra Goetz who pitched a complete game with six strikeouts in her season-debut.
The Warriors will be back in action for one more Saturday at 10 am as they face Antelope Valley to finish their time at the TCS SoCal Classic.
"We had a strong outing to clinch our season-opener, but the inability to capitalize in the box at the right time and push runs across was the difference in the final two games," head coach
Brie Campbell said. "This is only the beginning, there is plenty of season left and I have total confidence that once these young ladies find their momentum, they will be a strong force."
