SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Continuing the outdoor season of Track and Field, the Warriors headed down to Santa Barbara this weekend for a duo of meets at Westmont College. Beginning with three Warriors competing in the Adams-Klein Combined Events, the weekend ended with the entire Jessup quad competing Saturday in the Westmont Invitational.
Competing in the Combined Events meet Thursday – Friday for Jessup were
Alec Richmond,
Alexander Travis, and
Joelle Hameister.
Several personal bests were set for the trio of Warriors. For Richmond, new bests were established in the discus with a distance of 36.41m and a best in the decathlon with 6393 points. Hameister set a new best in the 200m, running a time of 29.91.
For Travis, Thursday – Friday were career days as he set new personal bests in nine of the 11 events he competed in. Those events were the 100m (12.17), 400m (58.07), 1500m (5:34.44), high-jump (1.59m), pole vault (3.55m), shot put (8.39m), discus (17.94m), javelin (30.39m), and the decathlon (4267 points).
In Saturday's competition, several more personal bests were set.
Rebecca Hardy posted new best times in the 200m (25.62) and 400m (57.59).
Having already punched her ticket to nationals,
Kyla Danielson improved her time in the 100m hurdle (14.82), placing her at eighth in the nation. She also set a personal best in the 400m hurdle with a time of 1:04.22.
In the women's relays, Jessup's team of Danielson, Hardy,
Alexis Jones, and
Lauren Smith took second in the 4x400 (3:57.92), besting by two seconds the Jessup record the team set just a week ago. The team would also take third in the 4x100 (48.91), tying the time they posted last week, which was a Jessup record as well.
For the Jessup men, the 4x100 relay team of Travis,
Jonathan Joe,
Alec Richmond, and
Kamil Jones took first with a time of 45.32.
Jacob Richmond continued what has already been a great year in the throws by posting new bests in the shot put (13.20m) and javelin (31.64m).
Jones would later take fourth in the 400m posting a personal best time of 50.82. He also set a personal best in the 200m (22.83).
Saturday's Westmont Classic was a team-scored event. In the women's competition, out of 14 competing schools, Jessup placed 6th
. The Jessup men took 8th place out of 12 competing schools.
Jessup's track season continues next week as they will have their shortest distance to travel this season as they compete in the Sacramento State Invitational. For complete results of this past weekend's competition, click
