Men’s Tennis Welcomes Nine Additions Ahead of the Program’s Second Season

Head coach Chris Tolson and the Warriors will be entering the second season of the men’s tennis program in 2023

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Now in year two of the program, Jessup Men's Tennis will be looking to progress in 2023 as head coach Chris Tolson welcomes his second recruiting class. Tolson welcomes nines newcomers as the Warriors hope to build off a solid ending to the 2022 campaign.
 
Year one for men's tennis had its challenges, but the season ended with a bright spot when the Warriors won their first match at the GSAC Tournament. The nine new Warriors will be hoping to pick up more wins in 2022 and hopefully piece together a deeper run in the postseason.
 
AUSTERBETO CARLON | PHOENIX, ARIZ. | MESA COMMUNITY COLLEGE
 
Phoenix native Austrebeto Carlon comes to the Warriors after recently attending Mesa Community College. During his high school career at Desert Vista HS, Carlon was a four-time All-State and All-Conference selection. In addition, he was ranked number one in the state of Arizona. At Mesa CC, Carlon went 9-1 as a freshman and won his conference's Player of the Year award.
 
A Criminal Justice major, Carlon hopes to play professional tennis or work for the FBI. Carlon says he spends most of his time on the tennis court, and when he is not playing tennis, he can be found spending time with family and friends.
 
FABRICIO DITOLLA | SAO PAULO, BRAZIL
 
An international addition to the Warriors, Fabricio Ditolla comes to Jessup via Sao Paulo, Brazil. Ditolla is one of two Brazilian natives on the Jessup men's team, as he joins Henrique Levy, his fellow countrymen.
 
Head coach Chris Tolson also added Brazil native Danielle Akabane to the roster before the 2022 season.
 
ISAAC GRAVES | STOCKTON, CALIF. | SAINT MARYS HS
 
Stockton's Isaac Graves comes to Jessup out of Saint Mary's HS. During his four seasons on the varsity squad, Graves earned an MVP award and went 22-3 one season. The highlight moment came as his team won a league championship.
 
Graves is an Accounting major at Jessup, and while he hopes to use his degree post-college, he also wants to become a firefighter. The opportunity to continue his tennis career led Graves to Jessup. His hobbies include fishing, snowboarding, hunting, and golfing.
 
HENRIQUE LEVY | SAO PAULO, BRAZIL | ESCOLA LOURENCO CASTANHO
 
Brazil native Henrique Levy comes to Rocklin to compete with the Warriors. Levy played did not play tennis in high school while attending Escola Lourenco Castanho in Sao Paulo. When he steps on the court for the first time this spring, he will be making his debut competing for a school.
 
Levy is studying Business at Jessup and said he wants to work for an investment bank one day. When asked why he chose Jessup, Levy said, "I chose to come to Jessup because of the good conversation that I had with the coach and the captain of the team." His hobbies include playing and watching soccer.
 
DAVID PEREZ | BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. | BAKERSFIELD JUNIOR COLLEGE
 
Bakersfield's David Perez comes to the Warriors, looking to continue his collegiate career after a stint with Bakersfield Junior College. Perez played high school tennis with Mira Monte HS. During that time, he went 79-17 and was named Junior of the Year. He also won the Bob Lyhn Sportsmanship Award.
 
Perez will be studying Kinesiology, and he hopes to continue in tennis as a tennis director. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, spending time with family, and going on road trips.
 
KYLE RUTZ | FOLSOM, CALIF. | FOLSOM HS
 
Coming to the Warriors out of Folsom and Folsom HS is Kyle Rutz. Rutz competed for three seasons on the varsity team with the Bulldogs. During that time, he and his squad finished in second place. He'll be looking to add a GSAC Championship for his time during his four years here.
 
Rutz is studying Kinesiology at Jessup and wants to continue in academia down the road as a college professor. As a fan, things are going pretty well for Rutz right now, as he says he loves the San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants. He chose Jessup "to Learn about God, the incredible tennis team, and the location."
 
MIHNEA SECARA | XIRIVELLA, SPAIN | WHITMORE SCHOOL
 
Mihnea Secara comes to the Warriors via Xirivella, Spain, and Whitmore School. Secara did not compete on his school's team while at Whitmore, so he, too, will be making his team debut this spring.
 
Secara is studying Computer Science, and he hopes that he can continue playing tennis after college. When he is not playing tennis, Secara said he enjoys playing ping pong.
 
TANNER SITANGGANG | CHICO, CALIF. | PARADISE ADVENTIST ACADEMY
 
Chico native Tanner Sitanggang comes to the Warriors after playing three seasons of varsity tennis at Paradise Adventist Academy. During that time, Sitanggand won team MVP all three years and was a three-time All-League member.
 
Off the tennis court, Sitanggang is studying Business and plans for a career in accounting. He enjoys playing basketball, snowboarding, fishing, and football in his spare time. An opportunity to play collegiate tennis led him to Jessup.
 
CHIN-CHANG WU | TAINAN, TAIWAN | KAOHSIUNG MUNICIPAL HSIN HS
 
Coming to Jessup from Taiwan is Chin-Chang Wu. In his three years of high school tennis, Wu was the runner-up in the 16 years old and 18 year old men's doubles competitions. He will look to continue to succeed in doubles play here at Jessup.
 
Wu is studying Computer Science at Jessup. When asked what his goals are for the future, he replied that he hopes to become an American citizen. He enjoys spending time with family and friends when he has spare time.
 
The Warriors start their season on Thursday when they visit Holy Names in Oakland. The match comes after a series of scrimmages and exhibitions throughout the fall and early spring.
