Second-Half Run Sends the Warriors Home with a .500 Road Trip

Vanguard opened up the second half on a 13-2 run; Jessup returns to the court next weekend when they visit Menlo

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Warriors came into Saturday poised to do two things, sweep the road trip, and sweep the Lions. Having already knocked off No. 13 ranked Vanguard earlier this season on Horton Court, Jessup was unable to complete the regular-season sweep on Saturday, falling 55-36.

Saturday's outcome drops the Warriors to 8-5 in conference play. Jessup is currently sitting alone in fifth, as the top six teams will qualify for the GSAC Tournament.

Scoring was hard to come by earlier on Saturday, as the two teams combined for just 15 first-quarter points. At the half, Jessup trailed the Lions by six, perfect striking distance to climb back and take over in the second half.

But that is not what happened. Vanguard instead scored 13 of 15 to start the third, blowing the score line wide open. The Warriors would ultimately score 18 points to Vanguard's 31 in the final 20 minutes of action.

Head coach Corey Laster knew he would have a tough challenge ahead of him on Saturday. After Thursday's victory in San Dimas, Laster called Vanguard one of the better defensive teams in the GSAC.

"If you look at the conference standings, you know, they're one of the best defensive teams in the league."

Maila Lepolo led the Warriors in scoring with eight points. Andrea Jovicevic and Natalie Moulos each contributed seven.

The Warriors will be back in action next Saturday when they visit Menlo College in Atherton. Jessup hopes this will not be their last trip to the bay area, as the 2023 GSAC Tournament takes place on the Menlo College campus.
