CHICO, Calif. – Back in action were the Warriors on Tuesday as the Chico State Invitational wrapped up from Butte Creek Country Club. Entering the day looking up at the leaderboard, Jessup made a move to pass Simpson as the top NAIA program in the field.
The 14-team tournament featured competition exclusively from the NCAA, with Jessup and Simpson being the two lone exceptions.
Jessup posted their lowest tea score of the week, 302, besting their opening round mark by one stroke. It was a very consistent week on the course, as round two saw Jessup post 304 as a unit. Chico State claimed the team victory in their own tournament, edging past Sonoma State by three strokes.
Oscar Gutierrez posted the low round of the day for the Warriors, a two-over round of 74.
Matthew Shimizu was right behind him with a score of 75.
Juan Crespo (76) and
Ethan Leveque (77) rounded out the field.
Easton Hether of Cal State East Bay tied with CSU San Bernadino's John Kim for first individually as each shot -12 for the week.
Next for Jessup is a trip to Solvang as the women's team takes part in the TMU Danish Classic. The same event saw Jessup's Jessica Burdick take home the victory one year ago.
The Jessup men will be back in action on October 17 for day one of the Vanguard Classic, hosted at Oak Valley Country Club in Beaumont.
