Fourth Quarter Run Hands Jessup Their First Loss of the Season

Four Warriors ended the night in double-figures; Bushnell went on a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter

KIRKLAND, Wash. – For the second season in a row, Jessup found themselves in Washington for the Cascade Challenge, hosted by Northwest University. Taking on the Bushnell Beacons on night one, Jessup took the lead into the fourth quarter, but a late run by Bushnell handed Jessup their first loss of the season.

As mentioned, the Warriors came into the night undefeated, sitting at 4-0. With the loss, Jessup falls to 4-1 but will look to get the win back when they return to action tomorrow night.

The Warriors were led by Andrea Jovicevic, as she dropped 14 points on 5-of-11 from the floor. Jovicevic added three rebounds and a pair of assists during her 34 minutes of court time.

Jessup ended the night with four players scoring double-figures. Makaila Napoleon scored 13 to go with five boards. Maddy Meadows (11) and Natalie Moulos (10) also ended the night scoring double-digit points.

It was a one-point lead for the Warriors entering halftime on Friday night, as Jessup went into the locker room on top 33-32. The game was very even throughout, as both teams proceeded to drop 20 points in the third, sending the game into the fourth quarter with the Warriors still holding onto a one-point advantage.

A 5-0 run by the Warriors to start the fourth pushed the Jessup lead to six, but here came the Beacons. Scoring 14 unanswered, Bushnell took an eight-point lead that had the Warriors in quite a hole with 4:05 to play. The deficit would get as low as four after a pair of Napoleon free throws, but the 14-0 run would be too much as it set up Bushnell for the win.

The Beacons were led by Libby Mathis, who scored 20 points on Friday night. Three other Bushnell players closed the game in double-figures as well.

Jessup shot 40 percent from the floor in the loss, compared to a 42 percent outing from their opponents.

The Warriors will be on the court again tomorrow as they wrap up the Cascade Challenge against the hosts of Northwest. In their matchup last season, Jessup won the bout 77-49. Saturday's tip is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Jessup will be back home on Horton Court on December 2 when they host Lincoln.
