Late Bucket Secures a Comeback Victory in Washington

Jessup trailed by seven with five minutes to go; Napoleon scored the winning basket with 33 seconds remaining

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Night two of Northwest University's Cascade Challenge got underway on Saturday as the Warriors looked to bounce back from their first loss of the season. Taking on the hosting Eagles of Northwest, Jessup played from behind for the majority of the game until a late run gave Jessup the lead with seconds to go.

Northwest controlled the lead throughout Saturday's game, as the Eagles found themselves on top of the scoreboard for 32:51 of game time. The game would see the score all tied up at times, but the Warriors never led until a Natalie Moulos jumper one minute into the second half.

The Warriors would keep the lead entering the fourth quarter, holding a 54-51 advantage, but it was short-lived as the Eagles quickly regained the lead early in the fourth.

Northwest led by as many as seven in the fourth quarter, as a 64-57 lead with 5:11 to go had Jessup in need of a run. A 5-0 Jessup run immediately followed as the Warriors cut within two. It would all come down to the final minute, as Jessup would need a score and a stop to secure the win.

The score came with 33 seconds showing on the clock as Kayla Vieira found Makaila Napoleon on the block for the go-ahead layup. Then came the stop, as Maila Lepolo swatted away a Northwest attempt at the win, sending the Warriors into a fastbreak as the clock expired.

Jessup improves to 5-1 with the victory, avenging their first loss of the season last night.

Napoleon led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points to go with a trio of rebounds and assists. Andrea Jovicevic added 11, while Vieira and Moulos both scored nine.

Jessup shot 40 percent from the field in the victory, compared to a 42.6 percent showing from the Eagles.

The Warriors get two weeks off now as they are scheduled to return to the court on December 2 against Lincoln University. Fans can purchase their tickets early HERE.
