CHICO, Calif. – For two Warriors this week, the 2023 season continued as Jessup competed in the multi-event classic at Chico State. Battling the elements of a windy and rainy two days, a packed field of athletes from various levels challenged the Warriors in the heptathlon and decathlon.
Competing in the decathlon from the men's side was
Alexander Travis. Travis placed eighth in the event, which included 13 athletes.
Travis narrowly missed out on a new PR in the 100m, finishing 0.04 seconds off of his best mark, with was set at the GSAC Championship a year ago. In the long jump, Travis posted a mark of 5.99m, tying the PR he set two weeks ago at the Sunshine Open in Santa Barbara.
Freshman
Jaylee Hameister was also in competition, competing in the heptathlon.
The meet saw Hameister compete in three events for the first time at the collegiate level. She ran the 100m hurdle for the first time, posting a time of 18.65. In the 200m, Hameister ran 32.62, and she finished her first javelin competition with a mark of 19.57m.
Hameister and Travis will look to improve their marks throughout the season as they prepare for the 2023 GSAC Championship. Another multi-event meet will take place April 6 -7 at Stanislaus State.
For the remainder of the Warriors, the season continues on March 3 at the Kim Duyst Invitational in Turlock.
