PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon road trip continued for Jessup, as after winning the first regular season game in program history yesterday, the Warriors were back at it on Friday, taking on Lewis & Clark College. The momentum carried over as Jessup made it to two in a row, winning 4-3.
In a similar fashion to their victory on Thursday, the Warriors relied on their excellence in singles play to win the match. The Warriors won four of their six singles bouts after starting with a loss in doubles play.
The lone win in doubles action came from the duo of
Sam Smith and
Austrebeto Carlon, as they won 8-4.
Both Smith and Carlon would add a victory in singles play as well. Smith, Jessup's captain, won in straight sets (6-4, 7-6). Carlon followed with another straight-set victory (6-4, 6-2).
Others competing in singles play included
Roger Wen,
Kadyn Silva,
Mihnea Secara, and
Isaac Graves.
Wen, playing in the first position, forced his bout to a third set before dropping the match (4-6, 7-6, 4-6). Graves also forced a third set in his loss (7-6, 1-6, 4-6). Silva (6-3, 6-3) and Secara (7-5, 6-4) got the wins in their matches, both doing so in straight sets.
Jessup, three matches into the season, is now 2-1.
The Oregon trip wraps up tomorrow as Jessup competes twice. The day starts at 10 a.m. when Jessup faces Lewis-Clark State. Later that evening, the Warriors will play George Fox.
