School Records Broken at the OIDFE Challenge Meet

Waseq hits the A-Standard for indoor nationals; Prince and Pedretti set new PRs and school records

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The official start of the indoor season for Jessup track took place on Saturday as the Warriors made the trek down to Claremont. The day saw several school records broken, and one student-athlete has already punched her ticket to nationals.

Erica Waseq, who was named the GSAC Freshman of the Year last season, wasted no time punching her ticket to South Dakota as she hit the A-standard in the 60m hurdle. Waseq set a new Jessup record in the process, as she posted a time of 8.85.

Waseq was not the only one setting new Jessup records, as two additional ones were set on the women's side. Jessica Pedretti came in second in the weight throw with a mark of 14.48m, breaking her PR and shattering the Jessup record in the process.

All four of Pedretti's throws broke her previous PR.

Azalea Prince also set a new PR and broke the Jessup record in the 3000m. Prince posted a time of 10:30.18 as she looks to make a return trip to indoor nationals this year. Prince has already qualified for nationals five times in her Jessup career.

Another big performance came out of freshman Julia Pisenti. In her first meet with the Warriors, Pisenti boosted to second all-time in two events while moving to third in another. Pisenti moves into second in program history in the shot put (12.07m) and triple jump (10.12m) while moving into third all-time in the weight throw (14.01m).

Pisenti also became the first Jessup freshman to surpass 14m in the weight throw.

In the 60m, Paloma Baumert moved into second all-time with her time of 8.08. Baumert ran a time of 8.10 in the prelim, a time that was second best in program history up until the finals of the event.

In total, the Warriors finished the day setting 23 new top-10 marks for indoor track.

The Warriors now make their way to Santa Barbara for the Sunshine Open, an annual staple on the schedule. This will be Jessup's final chance to punch tickets to indoor nationals in South Dakota, as it is the final indoor meet of the season.

Indoor nationals take place from February 29 – March 2.
