Warriors Enter Thanksgiving Break After 68-62 Victory in Turlock

Jessup picks up their second road victory of the season; The Warriors will not be back on the court until December 5

TURLOCK, Calif. - There is plenty to be thankful for this Tuesday night if you are one of the Warriors, as the final game before Thanksgiving saw Jessup pick up a 68-62 victory in Turlock. Just 48 hours away from the holiday, Jessup improved their record to .500 with the win at Stanislaus State.

Jessup is now 3-3 in its first season of Division II competition. The Warriors have earned all three victories against schools from California's other Division II conference, the CCAA.

The victory against the Warriors of Stanislaus State sends Jessup into the holiday break feeling positive. Jessup will not compete for nine days, as their next scheduled battle comes on December 5.

Jessup bookended Tuesday's game with strong offensive showings, beginning with the first period, as the Warriors posted 20 points. Jessup connected on 7-of-14 from the floor in the opening ten minutes of play, with four of their field goals coming from beyond the arc.

The Warriors followed that up with a 16-11 advantage in the second to take a 36-24 lead into the locker room.

After the intermission, the hosts of Stanislaus finally found their groove. A 9-for-14 showing from the field (64 percent) paced Stanislaus to 21 third-quarter points. Their defense was also stout, holding Jessup to just nine points in the period as the game entered the fourth quarter, with Jessup's lead now evaporated.

With the game now all square entering the fourth, it would take five minutes before Jessup could find any separation. The momentum swing began with Andrea Jovicevic's 3-for-3 trip to the charity stripe, which placed Jessup ahead by three. It was aided on the next possession as a Jacklyn Kulow steal led to a Natalie Moulos layup, putting the Warriors up by five.

Two more Jovicevic free throws extended the run to 7-0, as Jessup then spent the majority of their time on offense at the free throw line, putting the game away.

Jessup made 21 of their 30 free throw attempts, with Jovicevic and Moulos each knocking down five. The duo led Jessup in scoring with 14 points each. Brianna Byrnes was right behind them with 13.

Kayla Vieira led the team in rebounding with six, and the two teams split the rebound battle 34-34.

The Warriors will now enjoy a break from basketball and spend some time with family this Thanksgiving, as another game will not be on the schedule until December 10. When Jessup does return to action, it will be a 5 p.m. tip inside Warrior Arena against the Red Hawks of Simpson University.
