ROCKLIN, Calif. – On day two of the Bill Holtz Warrior Classic, Jessup got their second look at a program from Alaska as the Nanooks of Alaska Fairbanks came to town. A slow start put the Warriors behind the eight-ball early, and the hole was too much to overcome, as UAF took the game 66-48.
Jessup moved to 0-2 on the season, their first as competing members of NCAA Division II.
Fairbanks dominated the game early, as they shot 40 percent in the opening period while outscoring Jessup 19-4. Each of the Warriors' four points came at the free throw line, as Jessup went a staggering 0-for-17 from the field in the first ten minutes.
The Warriors' first field goal came two minutes into the second quarter, thanks to a
Jacklyn Kulow jumper.
Jessup finished the game shooting 23.5 percent from the field, with the third quarter being their best showing with a 7-for-17 (41 percent) performance from the field. The Warriors posted 19 points in the third, but Fairbanks ended up winning each of the first three quarters before a 13-10 advantage for the Warriors in the fourth.
Once again,
Andrea Jovicevic led the scoring for Jessup, as she dropped ten points in the loss. Kulow,
Giselle Dogan, and
Janea Arnoldi all finished with six.
Rayne Tago led the team in rebounding with nine in her 20 minutes off the bench.
Destiny Reimers led the scoring for Fairbanks with 16 points on 6-of-13 from the field.
Jessup now takes the season on the road as they are scheduled to visit Sonoma State on Thursday. The Warriors will then be back home for a matchup with Chico State on Saturday, November 15.
