Jessup Prevails Penguins in Newsome's Buzzer Beater

Newsome scores on a buzzer-beater three-pointer to push Jessup to their second conference win; The Warriors will take on Menlo College on Dec. 19

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors played a hard-fought game against the visiting conference foes of Dominican University of California. This game went down to the wire yet again, as Jessup scored with less than a second left in play to win by a final score of 67-66.

This win for Jessup makes them 2-0 in conference and 7-3 overall.

Head coach Corey Laster commented on the day, "Overall, I'm really proud of our girls and their effort. This was a tough, hard fault when I was super happy for them."

Tatianna Newsome would be the decider for the weekend matchup as she hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer to push the Warriors ahead and win the game. The junior out of Pacifica drained 15 points and six rebounds on the night. "Tatiana hit an incredible shot to give us a lead that we were able to hold," continued Laster.

This is the second of the last three games that ended in a one-point difference, the last being a 52-51 win against the Warriors of Westmont College last weekend.

The tight-scoring game never exceeded a three-point lead on either side in all four quarters. Jessup completed the first two-quarters of the play-up by one point during the halftime break. The game would remain neck and neck to the final wire. Jessup scored in a dramatic fashion to seal the win despite the Warriors' 21 turnovers.

Kayla Vieira (17), Andrea Jovicevic (16), and Tatiana Newsome (15) led the way in scoring for Jessup in the hard-fought victory.

"Great win for us against a tough, gritty, and talented team in Dominican. We did enough to win and execute better down the stretch, limit turnovers, and learn from our mistakes. Overall, happy, really proud of our girls," continued Laster.

Jessup will return to home court on Dec. 19 to face the Oaks of Menlo College.
