Golf Starts the Spring Season at the PCH Invitational

Men’s golf took sixth place, backed by an individual top-ten; Jessup returns to action on February 26 at the Keelhauler Classic

CARMEL, Calif. – The first tournament of the spring took place this week for Jessup Golf, as the Warriors visited Carmel for Menlo College's PCH Invitational. The two-day tournament ends with Jessup earning two top-ten finishes.

Jessup competed in the PCH Invitational last season as well, as it was the Jessup men who took home first in the fall of 2022. Looking to repeat as champions, the Warriors came into day two sitting in fourth place but ultimately finished in sixth.

The Jessup women finished fifth in the five-team field.

Leading the Jessup men was freshman Braden Armstrong. Armstrong opened up the week at Qual Lodge Golf Club with a one-under round of 70. He posted four birdies in the round and followed it up with four more birdies on Tuesday. Armstrong's final round saw him shoot 77 (+6), as he finished the tournament in a tie for sixth.

The individual winner on the men's end was Giulo Zanichelli (-2) of Academy of Art.

Others in the field for the Jessup men included Oscar Gutierrez (T23), Matthew Shimizu (T23), Daniel Johnson (T23), and Mason Gray (44).

Over in the women's tournament, sophomore Jessica Burdick again led the Warriors as she finished in a tie for seventh. Burdick's shot back-to-back rounds of 80 (+9). Corina Shaw (15), Julianne Canda (T22), Macy Anderson (24), and Ayasha Phillips (25) rounded out the field for the Warriors.

Claiming the individual championship was Hannah Ulibarri (+2) of The Master's.

Menlo claimed victory in their home tournament on the women's field, as they edged past former GSAC rivals Westmont College by eight strokes. On the men's side, Occidental College ran away with the field as they beat Academy of Art by 17 strokes.

Jessup is scheduled to compete three more times in the spring before the GSA Championship, with their next tournament coming February 26 – 27 at the Keelhauler Classic in Vallejo. The Warriors will also host a tournament at the beginning of March at Darkhorse Golf Club in Auburn.

The 2024 GSAC Championship, Jessup's last, begins on April 15.
