SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – One final chance to secure a ticket to nationals took place on Saturday, as Jessup sent three student-athletes to San Rafael for the Dominican Invitational. For one, in her freshman year, she will see her indoor season continue as a third ticket to nationals was punched on Saturday.
Freshman
Paloma Baumert, competing in her first season with the Warriors, hit the B-Standard on Saturday with her mark of 3.50m in the pole vault. The standard needed was 3.47m, as Baumert also took first in the event.
"It's always great to have a freshman qualify for nationals," said head coach
Jeff Magley. "It's never easy vaulting in the rain, so a great job by Paloma to overcome the weather. For a freshman to qualify in her first opportunity, it's incredible."
Baumert joins
Erica Waseq (60m Hurdle) and
Azalea Prince (5000m), who have already secured their spot in the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship.
Also competing on Saturday were throwers
Julia Pisenti and
Jessica Pedretti. The duo took first and second in the women's shot put, as Pisenti won the event with her mark of 12.91m. Pedretti placed second with her throw of 12.44m.
Both marks were the second-best throw of the season for Pisenti and Pedretti.
Saturday was the final opportunity for Jessup athletes to qualify for nationals, as the event from South Dakota begins on February 29.
