Women’s Basketball to Host Pink Night on Thursday

Jessup will hold their annual Play4Kay night against Hope International; The night will be centered on raising awareness for breast cancer research

ROCKLIN, Calif. – A staple across college athletics each year, Play4Kay night is scheduled for this Thursday when the Warriors host Hope International. With the night focusing on basketball and finding a cure for breast cancer research, Jessup hopes to continue their climb to the postseason while honoring a cause near to their heart.

Jessup plays host to Hope International on Thursday night as the GSAC season reaches its final five games before the conference tournament. It will be an important contest for both teams, as both Jessup (6-3) and Hope International (5-4) are battling for a spot in the postseason.

But on top of it being a marquee conference matchup, it will also be an important night as the Warriors will be decked out in pink for Play4Kay night.

Play4Kay honors the survivors of cancer. Created by coach Kay Yow, Play4Kay is "a way to bring communities together and honor cancer warriors in the fight against all cancers affecting women. Uniting players, coaches, officials, and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses in competition."

The event is a staple across collegiate athletics, as programs designate one game per year as their Play4Kay night, Thursday being the choice of the Warriors.

Yow spent 34 years as the head coach of North Carolina State, where she won five ACC regular season championships and four ACC Tournaments. She is a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, where she was inducted in 2000.

In 2009, Yow passed away after an ongoing battle with breast cancer. The Play4Kay movement keeps her legacy alive.
