Women’s Track Wins the Chuck Buettner Twilight

Price takes over the GSAC lead in the men’s 400m hurdles; Women’s track wins their first meet of the season

HAYWARD, Calif. – The outdoor season continued this weekend as the Warriors made the trip to Hayward for the Chuck Buettner Twilight. On another day with several PRs to highlight, the big moment came in the team scoring as the Warriors are walking away as winners.

Women's track posted a team score of 141 points, besting the 11 other programs that were in the field. The field included teams from NCAA Division I and II. The men's team also had a good team performance, as their 77 points placed them third.

The meet was also a way for teams to recognize long-standing track official, Chuck Buettner. "It was a great to honor Chuck Buettner, one of our longtime officials and starter who's just been great for our sport," said head coach Jeff Magley.

On the track, the Warriors saw several athletes make their first appearance in an event on Saturday. One of those Warriors, Jeremiah Price, moves into the top spot in the GSAC with his time of 58.56. Price won the event, which was his first time racing that event this season.

Paloma Baumert also made her season debut in the high jump, as her mark of 1.40m placed second. Julia Pisenti also made a debut performance in the pole vault, as she moved into the top three in the GSAC with her mark of 2.70m.

Both Baumert and Pisenti have already punched their tickets to nationals, with Baumert doing so in the pole vault and Pisenti punching two spots in the shot put and discus.

"Those three really good debuts were important for us going into the conference championship," added Magley.

Other PRs to highlight came from Mia Lagunas, who posted a time of 13.20 in the 100m, and Chris Hackney, who posted PRs in the 400m (53.14) and long jump (5.52m).

Just one more meet remains on the schedule before the 2024 GSAC Championship, as the Warriors will compete next weekend in the Chico State Invitational.

The GSAC Championship begins on April 24 from Moorpark, Calif.
