CHICO, Calif. – The final meet before the conference championship took place this weekend, as the Warriors were in Chico for the two-day Chico State Invitational. The weekend saw three Jessup records fall as athletes get their final tune-up in before taking on the GSAC next week.
Head coach
Jeff Magley offered his comments after the meet and noted, "We cut back the volume on everyone and limited everyone's events. We focused on some singular events today, as we have a quick turnaround in the conference championships on Wednesday."
The meet was dominated by the throwers once again, as records were set by Jessup's two national qualifiers:
Julia Pisenti and
Jessica Pedretti.
Pisenti had her record come in the discus, as she won the event with a mark of 46.80m. Pisenti's throw is currently the second-best in the NAIA and would rank in the top-five had the Warriors been competing in DII play this season.
But it wasn't just the discus that Pisenti shined in, as she also set a PR in the shot put, breaking the 14-meter mark in the process. Pisent later added a PR in the long jump to round out her great week.
Another new record by the throwers was set was by
Jessica Pedretti, as she posted a new best mark in the hammer. Pedretti then added a PR in the shot put.
Erica Waseq also broke the record for the 100m hurdle, an event she's looking to make a second run at for a GSAC Championship next week.
Other PRs set on the track came from
Chris Hackney and
Jeremiah Price.
Eleanor Kania also set a new PR on the day.
The Chico State Invitational is Jessup's final meet before the GSAC Championship, which will begin on Wednesday from Moorpark, Calif.
