Baumert Punches Her Second Ticket to Nationals

Baumert secures a second national championship appearance in her freshman year; Jessup returns to action next week in San Francisco

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After two days at the Stanislaus Multi Event meet, Jessup was back on the track Saturday as the entire team competed in the Sacramento Invitational. On another day with multiple PRs set, the highlight was a freshman punching her second ticket to nationals.

"We had a great meet today in what was finally some California spring weather," said head coach Jeff Magley. "Getting out of the rain storms we had our last two competitions really helped the mindset of our team."

The highlight of the day came in the pole vault, as freshman Paloma Baumert secured her second career trip to nationals. Baumert punched her ticket earlier this year to the indoor meet in South Dakota, and now she will compete on the outdoor stage in Indiana.

Baumert posted a top mark of 3.55m, a new PR that sends her to the national championship.

There was also another strong performance put on by Julia Pisenti, who will be joining Baumert in Indiana. Pisenti moves to second all-time in the javelin for Jessup after she posted a new PR of 38.42m.

The throwing events also saw PRs set by Justin Heckman (11.33m) and Jessica Pedretti (12.76m) in the shot put.

Over to the track, the women's 4x100m relay team moved to second all-time in program history with their time of 48.93. Magley commented on their showing, saying, "I think they have a good chance to scare that school record as we go into our championship season."

The outdoor season is now winding down for the Warriors, as just two more meets remain before the 2024 GSAC Championship. The conference championship meet will begin on April 24. Next week, the Warriors will be in the Bay Area for San Francisco State's Chuck Buettner Twilight.

For the three Warriors who have already secured a trip to the NAIA Outdoor National Championship, the action from Indiana will begin on May 22.
