SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Jessup began a three-game road trip in the Bay Area on Saturday, taking on the Penguins of Dominican. The Warriors came out on the losing end of a 63-52 final, extending Jessup's losing streak to six games.
The Warriors are now 7-9 overall, while their record in conference action drops to 2-6.
Jessup was led in scoring by two players, as
Tatiana Newsome and
Kayla Vieira each dropped 11 points. Newsome did so while connecting on just three of her 18 attempts from the field, adding a 3-of-4 showing at the charity stripe. Vieira finished 5-of-7 from the field.
Both players finished with six boards.
Natalie Moulos led the team with nine rebounds, seven coming on the defensive end.
Dominican was led by Alaiyah San Juan, who scored 17 points in 32 minutes of game time. Abigail Cooper added 14, with Taylor Linzie finishing with 12. The Penguins shot 35 percent from the field.
Saturday's contest was a two-point game at the intermission, with Dominican leading 23-21 after outscoring the Warriors by one in each of the first two periods. Their advantage grew in the third as Jessup was outscored 20-14, followed by a 20-17 advantage from the Penguins in the final ten minutes of regulation.
The Warriors will now get six days off before returning to action, as they will play the second of three straight in the Bay Area on Saturday, January 18, when they visit Academy of Art. The road trip ends with a visit to Menlo on January 23.
Jessup will be back home on January 25 when they welcome Azusa Pacific to Rocklin for Old Town Pizza Day.
