Women’s Basketball Claims Victory Over Academy of Art

Defensive surge forced 22 turnovers for 22 points

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - In an impressive performance, Jessup University women's basketball team secured a 66-49 win over the Academy of Art at Kezar Pavilion in San Francisco. The win improves Jessup's record to 9-9 overall and 4-6 in PacWest play.

Head Coach Corey Laster was pleased with tonight's execution: "It was a strong defensive effort tonight. It's been a tough stretch since we've played several good teams pretty close, but tonight's effort was a great confidence booster for the team. They came out aggressive and executed some things we wanted to do defensively wonderfully."

The Warriors set the tone early, jumping out to a 17-8 lead in the first quarter. Their defense and ability to capitalize on turnovers proved pivotal, as they forced 22 turnovers and turned those into 22 points. Jessup also dominated in the paint, scoring 42 points compared to the Urban Knights' 24.

Jessup was led by Natalie Moulos, who contributed a game-high 17 points, shooting 6-of-15 from the field and hitting 5-of-5 free throws. Brianna Byrnes followed with 12 points and added 3 assists. Kayla Vieira made her presence felt with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, showcasing her all-around game.

"Offensively, Natalie Moulos set the tone in transition, along with Kayla Vieira, while Bri Brynes' defensive effort established early was key." Laster added, "We also got great contributions off the bench from Amari Guiton."

Tatiana Newsome and Jacklyn Kulow provided a defensive spark, combining for 12 rebounds and 4 steals. Amari Guiton chipped in 8 points, including key buckets that kept the momentum in Jessup's favor.
The Warriors' depth was on display, as their bench added 15 points to the effort. Jessup's efficiency at the free-throw line (17-of-20, 85%) was another critical factor in sealing the win.

While Jessup struggled from beyond the arc, going 1-of-13 (7.7%), their aggressive play inside and rebounding advantage (44-33) compensated for the lack of perimeter shooting.

With this win, Jessup gains momentum as they continue their conference schedule. Their next game will be a crucial test as they seek to climb the PacWest standings.
