AZUSA, Calif. – The first contest of 2025 tipped off on Saturday from the Felix Event Center in Azusa as the Warriors made their first PacWest visit to Azusa Pacific. The hosting Cougars came out on the winning end, 90-72, extending the Warriors' losing skid to three straight.
Jessup now sits 7-6 overall on the season, with their record in PacWest action falling to 2-3.
Forward
Kayla Vieira led Jessup in the scoring column, as her 14 points came on a 7-of-13 performance from the field.
Jacklyn Kulow and
Tatiana Newsome also finished in double-figures with ten points each. Kulow also led the squad with seven rebounds.
The Warriors narrowly lost the rebound battle. 35-34.
It was a close game through the opening 20 minutes, starting with the Cougars taking a three-point lead at the end of the first. The Warriors then evened the score with a 16-13 advantage in the second, sending the game to the intermission deadlocked at 34.
Out of halftime, APU broke the game open with a 36-15 advantage in the third. The Cougars shot 58 percent from the field in the third, while the Warriors registered just nine shots in the period.
APU was led in scoring by Lauren Jones with a game-high 20 points. Kelly Heimburger and Amayah Kirkman each added 16.
Thursday's victory improves APU to 5-0 in the PacWest. The Cougars are 11-1 overall on the season.
Jessup will continue the road trip on Saturday as they are set to visit Biola in La Mirada. The contest is scheduled for noon. The Warriors will make their 2025 home debut on January 8, when they welcome Academy of Art to town.
