LA MIRADA, Calif. – A weekend in Southern California came to an end on Saturday, as overtime was needed to decide a winner in Jessup's battle with Biola. Following the low-scoring extra period, Jessup heads home with a 63-60 loss to conclude three straight on the road.
The Warriors are now 2-4 in PacWest action, with all four losses coming in a row. Jessup played their last three contests in Southern California, beginning with Vanguard the weekend before Christmas and resuming against Azusa Pacific two days ago.
Jessup saw double-digit scoring come from guards
Andrea Jovicevic and
Giselle Dogan. Jovicevic led the way with 17 points, while Dogan added 11. Dogan's hot hand came in the third quarter when she scored eight straight for the Warriors, including two of her three triples.
The biggest 3-pointer of the day came in the final minute of regulation, as senior
Jacklyn Kulow connected from the corner to put the Warriors ahead 59-57. The three was set up by Jovicevic who drove to the lane, drawing the defense in. Over the next 40 seconds, Biola managed to connect on 2-of-4 from the charity stripe, sending the contest to an extra period.
Kulow ended the game with five points.
That extra period would be one controlled by the defense, as the first basket came nearly four minutes into the five-minute segment. Sammie Henley of Biola drilled a 3-pointer, and Jessup would only manage one point on a
Laia Pala free throw as Biola outlasted Jessup 4-1 in overtime.
Biola moves to 3-3 in PacWest play with the win.
The Eagles saw three players finish the contest in double-figures, with Jaycee Goldsmith leading the charge with 19 points. Henly contributed 17, with Lila Walker adding 10.
Jessup now heads home for one game before hitting the road again. Jessup will play their next five games in Northern California, beginning with Academy of Art on Wednesday inside Warrior Arena. The Warriors will then embark on three straight road contests in the Bay Area before returning home on January 25.
