HILO, Hawaii - On the last day in the Aloha State, Jessup Island hopped to Hilo to take on PacWest foes of the University of Hilo Hawaii. The Warriors will leave the 808 state on a high note as they take the win in buzzer-beater fashion.
Jessup advances to 11-13 overall and 6-10 in conference play.
The Warriors were just in Honolulu, Hawaii, for a stunt with Hawaii Pacific University, where they lost 87-53, and Chaminade University this past weekend, where they won 63-46. Jessup ended their trip across the Pacific Ocean with a 53-52 win over Hawaii Hilo.
Brianna Byrnes would find a good jumper at the buzzer to give the Warriors the victory. Byrnes was 5-for-9 at the field goal and had 11 points on the night.
Giselle Dogan led the scoring for the Warriors with a respectable 19 points, four rebounds, and two assists in her 20 minutes of play. Behind Dogan and Byrnes was Kayla Vieira with 8 points in 26 minutes of court time and 2-for03 for the free throw line.
Hawaii Hilo led the way in the first quarter, leading the Warriors 10-6. A big 20-point second quarter for Jessup gave them the lead going into the half. Jessup kept the lead in the third quarter, but the Vulcans put the pressure on in the last and final quarter.
The Warriors and Vulcans were neck and neck in the final minute of play, with Hilo taking the lead with 21 seconds left. In the final Jessu possession, Brianna Byrnes nailed a good jumper to put the Warriors ahead by one and win the game 53-52.
Jessup will return home to Horton Court this Saturday for weekend action as Hawaii Pacific makes their way to the West Coast. Tip-off is set to begin at noon in Warrior Arena.
