ROSEVILLE, Calf. – Tennis continued the PacWest season on Wednesday, as the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific came to town for a doubleheader on the courts. After a last-minute change was made to move the matches, the day ended with FPU claiming two 4-0 conference wins.
The matches were slated to be played at Sierra College, but minutes before match time, a decision was made to move the contests to Johnson Ranch Sports Club in Roseville.
Jessup claimed victory in one of the three doubles contests, as the dup of
Vadim Francois and
Caleb Poling came out victorious, 6-2. Fresno Pacific would earn the doubles point after winning in the other matches, 6-2 and 6-0.
FPU earned three points in singles play before the Warriors could claim one of the matches, as two bouts went unfinished. Those matches were again by Francois and Poling.
In the women's match, the doubles duo of
Olivia Gutierrez and
Rylie Maloney saw their match go unfinished at 3-4, as FPU claimed the two matches needed to win the doubles point. Three additional matches went unfinished in singles play.
Maloney did push her singles match to a second set tiebreaker before falling in the set, 7-6.
Jessup will continue their season on Monday when they welcome Menlo to Rocklin. The matches are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. from Sierra College.
