ROCKLIN, Calif. – More awards keep rolling in for Jessup's
Sarah Giles, with the announcement of NFCA and PacWest Player of the Week selections. Having already claimed NCCAA Player of the Week honors yesterday, Giles goes 3-for-3 this week in the awards circle following a big weekend at the Tournament of Champions.
Giles is the second Jessup athlete in a row to claim PacWest Player of the Week, following
Maddy Ybarra, who won the award a week ago.
The selection of NFCA Player of the Week marks another milestone for the Warriors, as Giles becomes the first player in program history to win the award. The award is given out weekly at all NCAA levels, and with Jessup competing in the NAIA prior to this season, they were not eligible for the award. Giles has been recognized with NFCA postseason honors, claiming the NFCA-NAIA Player of the Year award in 2024.
Jessup played five times last week as part of the City of Turlock's Tournament of Champions, finishing the weekend 2-3 with wins against Central Washington and CSU San Bernadino. The Warriors are 5-6 to begin their first Division II season, with all 11 games taking place away from Foskett Regional Park.
That all changes when they host Simpson on Saturday.
Giles could not be stopped last week in Turlock. The senior first baseman homered in all five games while finishing 8-for-15 (.533) with 14 RBI, six runs scored, and a triple. She reached base 60 percent of her plate appearances and moved to the top of the PacWest in all major offensive categories.
One year removed from leading winning the NAIA triple crown, Giles currently leads the PacWest in batting average (.528), slugging percentage (1.111), OBP (.581), RBI (24), and home runs (5).
Giles and the Warriors will take on the Simpson Red Hawks this weekend at Foskett Regional Park, with first pitch being scheduled for noon on Friday. The Warriors will then return to the road for 12 straight away from Lincoln.
