SACRAMENTO, Calif. – It was a weekend for records to fall at Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational as four new school records were set. Competing in the Hornet Invitational, Jessup placed themselves against some of the top talent the NCAA has to offer across the two-day meet.
Â
The field this week included several programs from the Division I rank. Power-five programs Cal and Stanford were in attendance along with DI schools Boise St., Fresno St., Nevada, San Jose St., Sacramento St., San Francisco, and UC Davis.
Â
Two of the records set over the weekend came from sophomore
Gianni Miles. Miles began the weekend with a school record in the 200m, posting a time of 21.26 that had him sitting fourth in all of Division II this season. He is currently at the top of the NCCAA at that time.
Â
Miles followed that up with a time of 10.45 in the 100m to claim another school record. He leads the NCCAA in that event as well. But that wasn't all, as Miles joined the 4x100m relay team with a time of 42.39 to break another Jessup record.
Â
Jessup's 4x100m relay team also included
Logan Scammell,
Chris Hackney, and
Jeremiah Price. Miles ran anchor on the relay.
Â
Price also added a PR in the 400m hurdles, and Hackney set a PR in the 400m.
Â
Thrower
Julia Pisenti joined in the record-breaking acts as she again shined in the discus. Pisenti continues to lead Division II in that event following her throw of 50.83m. That mark set a new Jessup record.
Â
The weekend also saw a number of PRs set across the two days.
Justin Heckman posted a new PR in the shot put, moving him to eighth in program history.
Derek Brown joined him with a PR to move him to third in the record book.
Zachary Heberlein posted a PR in both the 5000m and 1500m. Distance events also saw PRs set by
Cheyenne Ullrich and
Tayla Starr.
Erica Waseq also posted a season-best in the 100m hurdles.
Â
Track will be back in action next weekend when they visit Clovis for the West Coast Relays.
