ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup Track & Field is gaining national recognition for the second week in a row, as sophomore
Gianni Miles was named this week's NCCAA Track Athlete of the Week. The honor comes after Miles' multiple record-breaking performances over the weekend in Sacramento.
Â
Miles competed in three events at the Hornet Invitational, and in all three events, he set a new program record.
Â
His time in the 200m was posted on Friday, day one of the meet, as his mark of 21.26 seconds not only established a new Jessup record and also moved him to fourth in all of Division II this season. Miles leads the NCCAA in that event.
Â
Saturday saw Miles add an additional record to his resume with his time of 10.45 in the 100m. Miles previously posted 10.39 in the event at the Kim Duyst Invitational, but it was not wind legal to qualify for the record book. He now owns that record with his wind-legal time on Saturday, which is also the top time in the NCCAA.
Â
The third record came as a member of the 4x100m relay team in which Miles runs the anchor. The team posted 42.39, moving them to third in the NCCAA. Miles was joined by
Logan Scammell,
Chris Hackney, and
Jeremiah Price on the relay team.
Â
Miles is in his second season with the Warriors. His freshman campaign led him to the NAIA Outdoor National Championship in the 200m. He won the GSAC Championship in the 100m and 200m as well.
Â
The Warriors will continue the outdoor season this weekend with a visit to Clovis for Fresno State's West Coast Relays. The 2025 PacWest Championship is scheduled for April 25 – 26.
