FRESNO, Calif. — The Jessup University Women's Volleyball team played a competitive five-set match against the undefeated Fresno Pacific Sunbirds on Saturday, ultimately falling 2-3 (14-25, 23-25, 27-24, 29-27, 10-15). The Warriors displayed remarkable grit by recovering from an 0-2 deficit to force the decisive fifth set.
Jessup struggled in the opening set, dropping it 14-25. The second set showed improvement, with the Warriors closing the gap before losing a tight 23-25 battle.
Facing a difficult situation down two sets, Jessup mounted an impressive rally. The team secured the third set, 27-24, utilizing strong late-set execution. This momentum continued into the fourth frame, which became the longest set of the afternoon. Jessup managed to claim the extra-point battle, 29-27, leveling the match at 2-2 and sending the contest to a fifth set.
In the final 15-point set, the Sunbirds were able to create an early separation and maintain the lead. Fresno Pacific closed out the set 15-10, taking the match victory.
Addisen Hamilton led Jessup in kills with 18 while Kemyah Harris followed with 11. Kenzie Carpenter recorded 47 assists while Eliana Sheridan finished the matchup with 19 digs. The Warriors' overall statistics reflect a strong effort against a quality opponent. Jessup generated 58 kills as a team, demonstrating persistent offensive pressure.
Head Coach Kyle Steele reflected on the team's persistence and determination, "We played much more competitive today and was proud of the effort on the court trying to give a team their first loss. Plenty of bright moments to build on as we head into conference counter matches."
The Warriors will return home for their next matchup against Westmont College on October 4th at 7:00 PM.
