04/11/26

CHICO, Calif. – Jessup University men's and women's track and field teams traveled north on Saturday to compete in the Wildcat Invitational at Chico State University.

Against a highly competitive field, the Warriors put together a solid day of competition, highlighted by impressive top-five finishes in the hurdles, jumps, and throws.

The Warriors made a significant impact in the field, led by a pair of strong performances from the women's roster. Shiloh Vallejos had a phenomenal day in the throwing ring, securing a top-five finish in the shot put with a heavy toss of 10.81m to take 5th place. She followed that up with another top-ten placement in the discus, throwing 30.42m for 10th place.

In the jumps, the women's long jump saw a heavy Jessup presence at the top of the leaderboard. Multi-event standout Jocelyn Pedretti continued her stellar season with a leap of 5.10m to secure 4th place. Teammate Aurora Osburn was right on her heels, taking 6th place with a mark of 4.90m. Kayla Carpenter (4.43m) and Jaylee Hameister (4.25m) rounded out the tightly packed Warrior group in 10th and 11th, respectively.

On the men's side, Lucas Patterson put in a heavy shift across three throwing events, with his best finish coming in the discus, where he hurled a 37.03m mark for 15th place. He also represented the Warriors in the shot put (9.63m) and hammer throw (25.60m). Ethan Poirier took to the runway for the men's long jump, securing 14th place with a leap of 6.16m.

Over on the track, Erica Waseq delivered the standout performance of the day for Jessup. Waseq navigated the women's 100m hurdles with precision and speed, clocking a swift 14.66 to capture a 4th-place finish overall.

In the men's 400m dash, a quartet of Warriors battled through a deep field. Noah Sasaki led the Jessup pack, narrowly missing the top ten with an 11th-place finish and a time of 52.18. He was followed closely by Logan Scammell (52.52) in 15th, Ephraim Schmidt (54.53), and Oscar Duncan (57.86).

The 200m sprints saw Pedretti pull double-duty, taking 12th on the women's side with a quick 26.62, followed by Carpenter (27.30) and Kimora Hill-Brown (28.68). For the men, Antonio Leal led the charge in the 200m with a 22.96 (18th), while also clocking an 11.33 in the 100m dash earlier in the day.

In the distance events, the Warriors tackled the 1500m. Madison Sutton paced the Jessup women, crossing the finish line in 5:09.18, with Juliet David following at 5:19.00. Travis Brown represented the men's squad in the metric mile, recording a time of 4:32.47.

With the Wildcat Invitational in the books, the Warriors now turn their attention to the postseason. The squad has two weeks to fine-tune their mechanics before heading into the Pacific West Conference Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships, which kick off on April 24th.
