ROCKLIN, Calif. - Jessup men's golf has been named the PacWest Team of the Week following an outstanding runner-up finish at the Dominican University Spring Invitational, held at the Sonoma Golf Club.
The Warriors posted a combined team score of 17-over-par across the multi-round event, battling tough competition to the very end. Jessup finished just seven shots back of the tournament champion, CSU Dominguez Hills, while narrowly edging out conference rival Vanguard University by a single stroke to claim sole possession of second place.
Leading the charge for the Warriors was freshman standout Jacobus Brakkee. The Tracy, California native continued his stellar inaugural campaign, shooting an impressive even-par for the tournament to secure a runner-up individual finish. Brakkee ended the week just three strokes behind the individual medalist.
Behind Brakkee, Jessup showcased remarkable consistency and depth down the lineup to secure the team accolade. Sophomore Paolo Castaneda, junior Nick Chavarin, and junior Braden Armstrong all stepped up in a major way, each clocking in with identical tournament scores of six-over-par. That balanced scoring attack provided the necessary cushion to hold off Vanguard and lock up the runner-up hardware.
The Team of the Week honor highlights a highly successful road trip for Head Coach Seth Heppner's squad, providing the Warriors with a surge of momentum as they gear up for the final stretch of their spring schedule.
Jessup men's golf will visit Turlock, CA for their next appearance at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational hosted by Stanislaus State University on April 13th-14th.
