Two Warriors Compete at the Reno Pole Vault Summit

Jackson sets a new PR, improving her previous best by 0.10m; Travis takes fourth in his competition

RENO, Nev. – The 2023 Track & Field season got underway on Saturday as two Warriors participated in the Reno Pole Vault Summit. Looking to continue on the pole vault success of Jessup from 2022, a PR was set to highlight the day.

Competing from Jessup on Saturday were Jayden Jackson and Alexander Travis. The two compete in the multi-events for the respective teams, with Jackson being a heptathlon athlete on top of her pole vault duties. Travis competes in the decathlon.

Jackson, competing in her second season with the Warriors, set a new PR in the college women's division. Her top mark was that of 3.25m, surpassing her previous PR by 0.10m. The previous Mark was set at GSAC Championship last season in Santa Barbara.

For Jackson to qualify for the NAIA indoor national championship, she will need to reach a mark of 3.52 to M for the "A" Standard. The "B" standard is 3.42m.

Jessup's Rachel Travis reached the "A" standard a season ago, a year in which she finished as an All-American at both the indoor and outdoor national championships.

Travis' brother, Alexander, joined Jackson in competition on Saturday as the two Warriors competing in Reno. Travis placed fourth in his field, reaching a top mark of 3.95m. The Mark was 0.15m off Travis' PR of 4.10m, which was set at the Stanislaus State Multi in 2022.

The meet only qualified for indoor competition on the women's side, as Jessup does not sponsor indoor men's track and field. National qualifications in men's competitions will only be for the outdoor national championships in Indiana.

For the remaining Warriors, the season will officially begin on February 11 when they visit Santa Barbara for Westmont College's Sunshine Open.
