VENTURA, Calif. – Jessup was back in action on Monday, taking a trip down south to Ventura to start the 2023 Westmont Invitational. Battling the weather and rough conditions of Olivas Links, the Warriors struggled to post low numbers on day one of the action.
With 18 holes of golf complete, The Master's University leads the men's tournament, holding a one-stroke lead over OUAZ. Menlo leads on the women's end, two strokes better than OUAZ.
Tying for the best score on the team for the Jessup women were
Jessica Burdick and
Alyvia Mackey, as the two enter day two in a tie for 25th. Both finished the day with a round of 82 (+10), with one birdie a piece registering on their scorecards.
The women's field also includes
Corina Shaw (T32),
Macy Anderson (T35), and
Irene Logan (44).
Over in the men's tournament,
Arturo Zavala and
Rex Rollins posted the best scorecards of the day, as each posted six over (78). The duo made one birdie each, with Zavala shooting one under on the front side. They sit tied for 23rd.
Sean Collins (T39),
Juan Crespo (45), and
Daniel Johnson (47) round out the field for the Warriors.
Individual leaders through round one are Max Mylett of Arizona Christian and Jack Dudeck of The Master's, as both shot three-under to lead the men's field. Catherine Batang of Menlo shot one under to take the lead along with Maddi Shoults of OUAZ in the women's tournament.
The final 18 holes from Olivas Links in Ventura will resume tomorrow.
